Many of the computer programs on the market today aggressively insert themselves in your Windows startup configuration, so they start automatically when your computer starts.

Because of this:

  • your computer takes longer to start because it starts all those programs
  • your system tray becomes crowded with icons of programs which start automatically when Windows starts
  • your computer's memory gets allocated to the programs that run from startup and thus your computer becomes slower when you run the programs you actually want to run.

Innovative Startup Firewall allows you to decide exactly which programs you want to run from startup.

When a program attempts to insert itself into your computer's startup, Innovative Startup Firewall detects this and asks you whether to allow the program to run when Windows starts or not:

Innovative Startup Firewall allows you to decide exactly which programs you

Press Yes if you want to allow the program to start when your computer starts. Press No if you don't want the program to start when your computer starts - that is, to remove the program from startup.

If you check the Remember this answer... checkbox, then the next time that program attempts to put itself in your startup, Innovative Startup Firewall won't ask you again about that program. It will use the choice you previously made (either to accept the program in your startup, or not to accept it). This is useful for those programs which attempt to insert themselves into startup again and again.

The choices you make regarding the programs you wish to allow in your startup are recorded in the Innovative Startup Firewall's Settings window, on the Programs tab:

Programs tab:

The Permission column specifies the permission for that program. That is, it specifies what Innovative Startup Uninstaller will do next time that program inserts itself into your startup. The possible values are:

Ask This setting means that the next time Innovative Startup Firewall detects that the program has inserted itself into your Windows startup settings, it will ask you what to do. This is the default setting for all new programs which insert themselves into your startup.

If in the New Startup program detected dialog we described above you answer Yes or No, but don't check the checkbox, then the program will have the Ask permission - that means, the next time that program inserts itself into startup, Innovative Startup Firewall will ask you what to do with it.

Allow A program which has a setting of Allow will be allowed to enter your startup without you being asked about it. This is useful for programs you are certain you want to keep in your startup.
Deny A program which has a setting of Deny will be removed from startup whenever it is found there or whenever it inserts itself into startup, without you being asked about it. This is very useful for programs that stubbornly insert themselves into your startup, and which you don't want to start automatically when your computer starts.

You can change a program's permission by right clicking in the permission column. A menu will appear allowing you to select the program's permission.

Innovative Startup Firewall also has a logging feature. It shows you on which date a program inserted or attempted to insert itself in startup. There are also other settings available.

And finally, a screenshot of the program's About window:
